Temple of the Heavens
A very large structure in Sanctuary. Priests of Vulera (The Sun) and Volkun and Vantas (The Moons) perform their studies, dedications and prayers here. The central tower is the highest structure in Sanctuary. The very top is called the Devotion Stand, from this platform some 80 feet above the ground the Priests of Vulera call the entire Village to Morning Prayer (The only prayer of the day), this prayer is called “The Aurora” and is used for the citizens of Sanctuary to pray for good fortune. Events through the day are called from the Devotion Stand such as High Noon and Sunset, but prayers are not joined.
The Priests of Volkun and Vantas trumpet the rising of the moons in the night sky shortly after sunset. Volkun is an orange tinged moon and rises first, it is larger than it’s sister moon Vantas that rises 32 minutes later and is dark blue in color. Priests of Volkun feel that their god is the strong brother of Vantas that heralds her passage through the night sky and protects her. Priests of Vantas tend to be women and feel as though Vantas is the mysterious God that protects night time activities in the shadows.
A flame can be seen in the upper tower of the temple that burns constantly except for during an eclipse, which happens once a year. The flame is then doused as it’s believed the Gods are in conference and any flame would disturb them. The flame is said by Travelers to be viewable from miles away at night and serves as a very welcome reminder of home. On top of the Devotion Stand Cupola stands a statue of Ustend Cerband a shipwreck survivor and Human Priest of Volkun. He kept the faith of the homeland alive in Sanctuary and founded the Temple of the Heavens.
The Current head priests are Elder Luthien Telruna of Vulera, a Human Female of 78 Winters. Eldárwen Nénharma of Vantas and her twin brother Isil Nénharma of Volkun. The Head Priests of Volkun and Vantas have always been brother and sister, both are Elves of 72 Winters.
